One of the most touching movies I've ever seen. A majestic film that elevates your consciousness about our human condition to a greater height; the sublime bonds between nature and man, between nomads and modern city-dwellers, between Mongolians, Russians and Chinese. Strong yet gentle, unschooled yet pure-hearted,down to earth yet lofty - the stoic Mongolians of the mighty steppe are as dignifying for us as human beings as their open landscape is awe-inspiring.On the other hand, the half-comical drunken Russian and his Mongolian counterpart Bayartou, remind us of the ever-present tragic dimension of our (modern) existence, albeit without a hint of cynicism, just genuine sympathy. This movie is a portrayal of humanity at its purest, so rare these days when your usual "Western" treat consists of pretty people, petty drama,over-the-top sex, cartoonish violence,"spectacular" CGI effects and dripping sarcasm;in total betraying a misantrophy that, coupled with the over-consumption of our planet's resources that we are currently witnessing, ultimately very well may bring us to our doom as a civilization.
For reference, "The Story of the Weeping Camel" is also highly recommended.
